Seth Matthew Smith, age 43, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Seth was born December 8, 1981 the son of Mickey "Mick" Gene Smith and Dana Lynn Smith. He served the country honorably in the United States Navy, and was deployed on the Arabian Sea when the 9/11 attack took place in New York City. He was also an avid college football fan and loved Penn State. Seth had a heart of gold and loved his daughter very much.

He is survived by his daughter; Emma Smith, his siblings; Justin Smith (Kim) and Lucas Smith (Karla), his grandparents; Max & Kay Rench, his grandmother; Donna Taylor, several aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents; Ed Taylor and Mary Rench, and his uncles; Stephen Taylor and Mike Smith.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, IL. Burial with military rites will follow at McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia, IL. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
