Opal M. Lawrence, age 95, passed away Thursday September 18, 2025 at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, IL.
She was born October 7, 1929 in Kentucky the daughter of William R. Jones and Dolly Jones (Sharp). She married Sollie Hill and he passed February 10, 1990. Opal later got married to John Lawrence and he passed away on May 12, 2017. Opal was a member of the Fillmore Baptist Church. She was a wonderful Christian role model to everyone that knew her, she loved to cook, and was very hospitable. She was always willing to open her home to any pastors or missionaries that were visiting the area.
Opal is survived by her grandchildren; Heidi (Jason) Miles, Heather (Jay) Greenwood, Jason (Tyra) Hill, Cody (Stephanie) Hill, and Kaden Kirchner; step children, Rene (Roger) Shipman and Ron (Karen) Lawrence; step grandchildren, Robbie (Lisa) Shipman, Ryan Shipman, Randy (Stephanie) Shipman, Jennifer (Ed Meyer) Humphreys, Daniel (Kelly) Lawrence, Julie (Trevor) Braye, Ashley (Jayce) Thompson; her great grandchildren, Emily Brummet, Gage Miles, Hannah Pool, Abigail White, Dalton Greenwood, Enon Greenwood, Marcus Williams II, Cali, Kassie, Kymber, and Avery Hill, Beau and Luke Kirchner; step great grandchildren, Macy, Marisa, Rendan, and Kirsten Shipman, Bradley Humphreys, Dylan, Gabe, and Zayden Charles, Gavin Braye, Lydia Jensen, Valor and Heston Braye, Raegan Cochran, Merritt, Marshall, Nina, and Nora Thompson; and her great-great grandchildren, Orion and Aurora Brummet, Grayson Miles, Oliver and Cynthia Pool.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Sollie Hill and her second husband John Lawrence, her sons; William "Bill" Hill, and Calvin Hill, and her siblings; Wilma Whitt, Nora "Carter" Williams, Helen Bertram, Ella "Deanie" Jones, Marvin Jones, and her twin William "Louis" Jones.
A funeral service will be held Saturday September 27, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore, IL, officiated by Mike Plummer and Tyler Shipley. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore, IL. Memorials can be made out to the Fillmore Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home, Fillmore, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
