Mark A. Miller II, 54, of Vandalia, IL, passed away Monday, October 3, 2023 at 7:10 AM at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mark, the son of Mark A. and Mary Helen (Moore) Miller, was born August 5, 1969 in St. Louis, MO. He married Meri Brooke File on June 17, 2006 at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, IL. Mark attended Ramsey Elementary and Junior High Schools. He was a 1987 graduate of VCHS and 1991 graduate of SIU Carbondale with a BS in Mortuary Science and a minor in Business. Mark was owner/operator of Miller Funeral Homes in Vandalia, Ramsey, and Fillmore, a family-owned business of three generations.

Mark was a former member of the Ramsey First United Methodist Church. A member of Vandalia First United Methodist Church where Mark faithfully shared his amazing drumming skills as a member of the praise band. Mark served his community 25 years as a dedicated member of VFD. He was a former member of Vandalia Country and Golf Club and Scottish Rites, Bellville, IL, Vandalia Moose Lodge 1447, Masonic Temperance Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., AINAD Temperence East St. Louis Shrine.

Mark is survived by wife, Brooke Miller of Vandalia, IL; father, Mark Miller of Vandalia; sister, Michelle and husband, Mark Daniels of Columbia, IL; loving in-laws, Tom “Ward” and Sid “Toony” File of Vandalia, IL, sister-in-law, Ashley ”Mooch” and husband, Scott Prange of Highland, IL; niece, McKenzie and friend, Tyler Graham of Waterloo, IL; nephews, Mitchell Daniels of Columbia, IL, Ryan Skrobul of Highland, IL and Grant Prange of St. Jacob, IL; Godson, Kale Reiss of Vandalia, IL; aunt and uncle, Beverly and Doctor Wayne Mason of Libertyville, IL; aunt, Stephanie Aldendifer of Plano, TX; aunt and uncle, Marsha and Howard Gulick of Bethlehem, PA; uncle, Robert Herr of Glen Carbon, IL; cousins, Derek, Brian, and Chad Mason, Jimmy, Brent, and Peter Aldendifer, Sarah Weinstock, John Gulick, Laura Herr, and Gretchen Herr; his VFD family; Mark’s four leggers; and all his amazing friends.

Mark is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen (Moore) Miller; brother, Mark Anthony Miller; grandparents, Mark E. and Donna L. (Beccue) Miller and Doctor Stanley “Doc” and Helen “Pinkie” (Voumard) Moore; aunt, Judith Ann Herr; and beloved cat Bonzo.

Funeral service will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL with Rev. Joe Lawson, Rev. Curtis Flake, and Rev. Derek Mason officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the church, and 10:00 to 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service on Monday. There will be a private family burial. Memorials may be made to Vandalia Fire Department or First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL.

The Miller family wishes to thank Dr. Adkins and the oncology department of Siteman Cancer Center and the 11th floor oncology nursing staff at Parkview Towers for their loving care and support for Mark. Thank you to our entire community for the love, prayers, and support that have been offered during his illness.

Markie enjoyed life and respectfully supported the community through his profession and gift of caring for others. Mark had a heart bigger than himself and was a friend to everyone he met.
