Kenneth Alan Johnson

Kenneth Alan Johnson, age 76, passed away on April 8th, 2023. He was born on October 22, 1946. When he married Linda Evans Johnson in 1968, he was welcomed into the Evans family by Paul and Mary Evans, Eldon Evans and Kent Evans.

Ken was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a Teletype Operator during the Vietnam war. He became a teacher and professor, beginning and ending his career at Sullivan High School with time at Eastern Illinois University as well. He started as a high school football coach, but was most proud of his time as a high school scholastic bowl coach, and was inducted into the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Hall of Fame.

Ken was a lifelong sports fan, cheering on the St Louis Cardinals, University of Illinois, and Sullivan Blue Dolphins swim team. He was happiest when rooting for his grandkids, and watching them become happy, healthy young adults.

He was predeceased by wife Linda Evans Johnson. He leaves behind: Son - Monte Johnson (Jennifer); Daughter - Tracy Johnson Smith; Grandchildren - Spencer Johnson, Artemis Johnson, Chloe Smith and Kelan Smith; and Sister - Judith Lincoln.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL with Rev. Dr. Judith Lincoln officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL with Military Rites by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL is in charge of arrangements.
