James Patrick "Pat" Kelly, 89, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, March 20, 2023, the first day of spring at SBL Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia, IL, with Father Seth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mother of Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Vandalia, IL with military rites by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, one and a half hours prior to the service at the church. Memorials: Mother of Dolors Catholic Church and/or Fayette County Health Department. Pat was born December 28, 1933, in Vandalia, IL, the son of George B. & Elizabeth "Bess" (Morlock) Kelly. He married the love of his life, Cara Lynne Taylor on October 19, 1963, at Scott Air Force Base. She passed away on September 1, 2015. Pat worked for State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster for 35 years; served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955; was a member of American Legion Post #95, Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia Country Club; served on the Evans Public Library Board in the past; enjoyed walks in the park; feeding and watching the birds on his patio; golfing at the country club; and being with his family.
He is survived by: Son - Jon Kelly & Lynn; Daughters - Crystal Meyer & Scott, Maria Hawkins & Russ, and Jennie Kelly & Dana; Grandchildren - Addie, Shannon, Morgan, Elizabeth, Bridgette, Rebekah, Sydney, Mary Grace, and Matthew.
Preceded in death by: Parents; Wife; Brothers - George R. "Bob" Kelly and Walter Eugene "Gene" Kelly; Sister - Adelaide Kelly.
