Bernadine Stanley Obituary

Bernadine Stanley, 102, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Fayette County Hospital, LTC, Vandalia, IL.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorials: Evans Public Library, Vandalia, IL. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.

She was born September 10, 1917, in Otego Township, Fayette County, IL, the daughter of Melvin & Nellie Rose (Groves) Brown Sr. She lived most of her life in the Vandalia area except for a few years spent in Terre Haute, IN and Collinsville, IL. She married Silas Ira Stanley March 24, 1951, Vandalia, IL, he passed away September 27, 1987. They raised two children, Roger and Mary Ann.
Bernadine was employed through the years at Johnson, Stephens & Shinkle Shoe Factory, Mabry Court Motel, and Crane Packing, before retiring. She had a lifelong passion for reading and also enjoyed traveling, sewing, watching classic movies and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by: Daughter - Mary A. Griffin & Phil, Overland Park, KS; Granddaughters - Katie Bieker & Chris, Lawrence, KS, Sarah Griffin and friend Brad, Kansas City, MO, Margaret Spengler and Ann Mercer of San Antonio, TX; Grandson - David Johnson and Tim, Austin, TX; 9 Great Grandchildren; Niece - Dorothy Torbeck, Champaign, IL; Nephew - Gary Brown & Candace, Vandalia, IL; and numerous Great & Great-great Nieces and Nephews. 

Preceded in death by: Parents; Husband; Son - Roger; Brothers - Kenneth, Everett and Leo; and Sister - Dorothy.
