Sharon Rae Carter, age 78, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Vandalia, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1948, in Sterling, Illinois, to Harold Cecil and Hazel (Addair).

Sharon married Garry Carter on December 19, 1970. They shared nearly 52 years of marriage before his passing on September 27, 2022. Sharon was a dedicated CNA for thirty years working at local hospitals and also doing private in-home care.

Sharon is survived by her son; Michael Carter (Mindy Gauger) of Vandalia, IL, daughter; Ronna (Greg) Mowry of Brownstown, IL, four grandchildren, and several great grand children with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
