Roy L. Elliott, 80, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Vandalia, IL. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 28, 2015, at First Pentecostal Church, Vandalia, IL. Private Burial at later date. He was born April 28, 1934, in Seminary Twp., IL, the son of Elbert Laverne & Alma Zoe (Galyean) Elliott. He served 2 years in the United States Army at Ft. Bragg before returning to Vandalia to raise a family. His work included road construction, electrical, heating & air conditioning and wood working. He became a licensed pilot in 1970 and served 12 years as a chief field officer with civil defense. He was a Member of Teamsters Union #50, & an active member of the First Pentecostal Church, Vandalia, IL. In later years he excelled as a poet. After an accident that resulted in a broken back, his active lifestyle was limited and so he turned to writing. One of his poems, "Questions" was published in the Creative Publishing Magazine. He is survived by: Son - Allan Elliott, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Connie Nichols & Leo, Vacaville, CA and Janet Elliott, Kalispell, MT; Sisters - Pearl Byers and Roseland, Peacock, both of Winter Springs, FL; 7 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren. Daughter In-law, Renee Elliot, Vandalia, IL Preceded in death by: Parents; Son - Barry Elliott, 1997; 1 Sister; & 1 Grandchild - Nikki.
