Obituary

Rowena K. Biellier, 82, "Mrs. Santa Claus" of Vandalia, IL, died on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 17, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL with Dr. Roger Grimmett, Rev. Louis Frick & Rev. Gary Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, in Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 16, 2011and 9:00-10:00AM, Thursday, November 17, 2011 both at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL. Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church and/or Vandalia Park District. Mrs. Biellier was born on April 14, 1929, in Clever, MO the daughter of Enoch Thalma and Bertha Ellen (Willoughby) Ghan. She married Carlos Biellier on June 4, 1951 in Ozark, MO and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Rowena was a homemaker and was very active in her church and community. She was past member of Welcome Wagon, the Newcomers Club, Vandalia Women's Club (served as President in 1969), United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary and Vandalia Country Club. She was the recipient of Soroptimist Woman of the Year and the Community Builder's Award from the Temperance Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. As a breast cancer survivor, she was active in the local Relay for Life and know to all as Mrs. Santa Claus. She devoted endless hours to visiting nursing homes, shut-ins and pre-schools spreading the joy of Christmas. She is survived by her husband, sons, Mark Biellier & Michele, of Beach, ND; Chris Biellier & Diane, of Geneseo, IL and Daughter: Carla Knebel & Richard, of Vandalia, IL. She and Carlos are blessed with 9 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents, 3 Brothers and Grandson, Lucas Knebel. "My life's been full, I savored much; good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now. He set me free."
