Robert Kent Metzger, 85, of St. Charles, MO, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO.

He was born March 12, 1940 the son of Charles John Metzger and Letha Madelyn (Abbott) Metzger. He married Marylin Lee Forbes on July 5, 1964 in Vandalia, IL. Robert received his bachelor's degree from Texas A&I University, and spent his life working as a wildlife biologist, studying sea turtles and bird migration in an effort to help restore the everglades. He also served his country in the United States Navy, serving on the USS King.

He is survived by his wife, Marylin Metzger; daughters, Kathryn Metzger and Ellen (Nate) Johnson; grandchild, Owen Johnson; sister, Abby Lang; in-laws, Ruth Ann Scott and Bob (Lori) Forbes; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many incredible friends who became family.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Metzger; and in laws, Larry Scott, and Linda and Terry Wendell.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 1, 2025 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.
