Richard "Dick" O. Chaplin, 77, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, in Fayette Co. Hospital, Long Term Care, Vandalia, IL.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Unity Baptist Church, Vandalia, with Pastor Robert Weaver, officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, RFD Brownstown, IL, with Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2018, at the Church. Memorials: Fayette County Hospice. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born January 21, 1941, in Siloam Springs, IL, the son of Olin Hamer & Frieda Marie (Gallaher) Chaplin. Married Joyce Ann Lang, December 15, 1961 in Long Beach, CA. She passed away February 21, 2017. He was a retired Maintenance Mechanic for a Drywall Manufacturing Co.; Member of Unity Baptist Church, Vandalia, IL; and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He is survived by: Son - Dennis Chaplin & Laurie, Orange, CA; Daughter - Karen Storm & Steve, Brownstown, IL; Grandchildren - Gretchen, James, Tucker & Hailey; Great Grandchildren - Harrison, Gwendolyn, Cora & Emma.

Preceded in death by: His Parents; Wife; 1 Brother; and 2 Sisters.
