Richard M. McFarland, age 74, of Vandalia, IL passed away Tuesday October 21, 2025 at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, MO.

Richard was born April 19, 1951 in Pana, IL, the son of Hershel Owen Bedford and Minnie Ethel (Long) McFarland. He married Ardith Ann Depew on June 19, 1975 in Rockford, IL. Richard was a hard worker and worked for many places over the years, including, Coca-Cola, GSI, and Midwest Blow Molding. He also owned North End Grocery in Ramsey, IL. Richard loved his family very much and enjoyed cars, woodworking, and Coca-Cola memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife; Ardith McFarland of Vandalia, IL, his children; Vicky Dunn (Stephen) of Belleville, Richard Trent McFarland of Carlyle, Michelle L. Butler (Brian) of Ramsey, Stephanie A. McFarland of Ramsey, and a foreign exchange student that lived with the family, who was very dear to him, Maxence "Max", his grandchildren; Breanna, Paige, Christopher, Dakota, Jasmine, Emily, Kaylee, Peyton, Chance, Gage, John, Brantley, Kaitlin, Nick, Christian, Lili, Rita, and Dwight, his great grandchildren; Olivia, Maverick, Kacee, Reece, Lainey-Ann, Khloe, Brooklyn, Brantley, and Kinleigh, and several nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Earl Bedford, Gloria Kernan, Iris McFarland, and Georgia Cole White.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, IL officiated by pastor Pete LeDuc. A visitation will be held prior from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. A burial will be held at Ramsey Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made out to the Vandalia Lions Club, the 6:35 Food Pantry, or Ramsey Meals on Wheels. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL is in charge of arrangements.
