Obituary

Richard Loel Cole of Ramsey, IL was born January 14, 1942, at home in Vandalia, IL, to Wayne L. and Ruth (Broemser) Cole. He was called home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, on what would have been his 59th Wedding Anniversary to be with his wife who had gone before.

Richard had lots of passions hunting, collecting guns, trap shooting, motorcycles, fast cars, restoring model Ts, collecting tractors, researching family history, working at the farm, boating with his family and in general visiting with people everywhere he went. He was an annual visitor to the Newport Hill Climb in Indiana, even bringing home a few trophies from the race over the years.

He met his beautiful bride Evelyn Kay Curtis at a local skating rink in Nokomis, and they married in 1965, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield. They traveled the country following his career and for fun. Calling Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Texas in addition to Illinois home. They were blessed with their only child Amanda K. Cole in 1980. Then their two grandchildren arrived, and he enjoyed spending time with them, watching them play sports, do other activities, taught his grandson to drive, and spoiled his granddaughter as much as he could.

Richard was a third-generation carpenter, and member of the Carpenters Local #16 in Springfield. He spent many years working for Bank Building, MICAR, Simmons and out of the local union halls. He and his wife started and are part owners of C&J Rentals of Kirksville, Mo. His hard work ethic kept him from ever really setting down, he kept coming out of retirement to help on another project, even overseeing his daughter's recent home build.

Richard is survived by his daughter, son-in-law Josh Crockett, grandchildren Curtis and Evelyn Cole Crockett all of Ramsey, IL. Sisters, Norma Mosier (Gary), Charlotte Stanton, Judy Glasford and Sandra Hinkle, sister-in-law, Kay Cole, brother-in-law, Richard Robinson, 14 living nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, in-laws, Wayne Curtis and Marjorie Robinson, brothers, Frank Leon, Darrel Wayne and Henry Cole, sister, Geraldine Vancil, brothers-in-law, James Glasford and Don Hinkle, beloved nieces, Joy Dean Jackson, Sherri Hocq and Linda Wilburn and special family friend, Jack Hayes.
