Phyllis Jean Thoman, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia, IL.

Phyllis was born May 19, 1936 the daughter of Glenn Goodman and Julia J. (Jarrett) Goodman in Fayette County, IL. She touched many people's lives over the years with her generous heart. Phyllis was a wonderful teacher for 30 years, as well as, a member of the Order of the Eastern star, the Vandalia Hospital Pink Ladies, the Soroptimists International of Vandalia, and helped with Meals on Wheals for many years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia. She served as the choir director at the church, and also played the piano.

She is survived by her daughter; Bev and her husband Kenny Lewey, son-in-law; Stuart Lakin, grandchildren; Tara Tritt with Brandon George, Laura Lakin with Jesse Deters, Ashley Lakin, and Aaron Lewey and Aubrey Lewey, and great grandchildren; Kimber Tritt and Evan Lewey.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter; Janet Lakin, her son; Ken Thoman, and her brother; Galen Jarrett.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, IL officiated by Pastor Dennis Hutchison. A visitation will be held prior from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, IL. Memorial donations can be made out to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL is in charge of arrangements.
