Nyla J. Graham, 78, of Kell, Illinois, formerly of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at her home in Kell, IL.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 10, 2022, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, IL with Pastor Michael Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Ramsey, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Friday, June 10, 2022, 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials: To the Family, Holy Cross Lutheran Church or FAYCO, all of Vandalia, IL. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. She was born April 12, 1944, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Emanuel & Pauline (Fuehrer) Schrenk.
After graduating from high school in 1962, Nyla moved to Seattle, Washington where she met and married Sanford in 1964, their union brought Sandra Dee into the world in 1966. They were divorced in 1990.
Nyla lived in various places after Seattle, WA, they moved to Portsmouth, VA and Epping NH. Then in 1976 they moved to Bluff City, IL and she was hired at FAYCO Enterprises in July, 1976, where she was an Administrative Assistant until retiring in September 2019.
She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Holy Cross Ladies Society, served on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity and the Genealogical Society, all of Vandalia, IL.
Nyla enjoyed theatre – she was "Maggie" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and also won a contest to be an extra in the soap opera "Capitol". She also enjoyed genealogy, writing & drawing. She loved to travel, especially with Sandra. In August of 2020 she moved from Vandalia to Kell to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra & David Laczynski.
She is survived by: Daughter - Sandra "Sandy" Laczynski & David, Kell, IL; Grandchildren - Cody Edgar, Ciara Lyn Martinez & Dillon, Chassidy Kelley & Josh, Cara Brown & Jacob, Brittney Little & Zach, Ciara Stone and Dawson Laczynski; 11 Great Grandchildren – Zeplyn, Xander, Braxton, Aydia, Rueger, Odin, Gatling, Skyeleigh, Zavix, Charlie and Hendrix; Brother - Alvin Schrenk, Bismarck, ND; Sister-in-law - JoAnn Schrenk, ND; Nephews & Nieces – Jay Schrenk & Jeanette, Janette Walker & Alan, Julie Baltzell, Sherrie Moulton & Bob and Rick Bagley & Tracy; and Several Great & Great Great Nephews & Nieces.
Preceded in death by: Her Parents; Brother - Albert Schrenk; and Great Granddaughter - Lillian Stoker.
