Norman Rex Rhoades 88, of Vandalia, IL, formerly of Ramsey, IL, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, surrounded by family at SBL Fayette County Hospital LTC in Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 1, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, IL with Rev. Curtis Flake officiating. Burial will be in the Ramsey Cemetery, Ramsey, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials: Pana Community Hospital Foundation Fund and/or Gideons International, and/or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons research. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.
Norman was born at home August 13, 1935, in rural Ramsey, IL, the son Alvia V. & Hettie O. (Blythe) Rhoades. Married Mary Ann Vandeveer on August 13, 1961 in Kinmundy, IL. He was a farmer, worked as the high school band director in Lovington, Kinmundy and Nokomis for several years; Member of the First United Methodist Church of Ramsey, IL and later Vandalia, IL; Gideons International; Illinois Music Educators Association; Illinois Educators Association; Board of Directors of Lincoln Farm Bureau Farm Management, and Board of Directors of Pana Community Hospital and Foundation; Past member of Rotary International.
Survivors: Wife - Mary Ann Rhoades, Vandalia, IL; Sons - Kevin Rhoades & Janette, St. Charles, MO and Kelly Rhoades & Tamra, St. Louis, MO; Daughter - Kathyrn Taylor & Paul, Fillmore, IL; Sister - Mabelene Virden, Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren - Afthan, Meghan, Taylor, Abigail, Scott, Matthew, Grant and Claudia; and Great Grandchildren - Emmet, Lucas, Jackson, Rayland, Daniel and Samuel.
Preceded in death by: His Parents and Brother-in-law - Norman Virden.
