Melvin Charles McKinney, age 74, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026 at his home in Vandalia, IL surrounded by family.

Melvin was born December 20, 1951 the son of Marvin McKinney and Irene (Gaffner) McKinney in Fayette County, IL. He married Brenda Sue Lape on October 1, 1977 in Vandalia, IL. She passed away on December 3, 2022. Melvin was a member of the First Church of God in Vandalia. He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed, fishing, golfing, duck hunting, and sitting out on his porch. He loved his family and enjoyed every minute he got to spend with them.

Melvin is survived by his son; Dustin (Tammy) McKinney of Brownstown, IL, his grandchildren; Danielle Reavis, Haley Cannon, Katlyn (Liam) Dugan, Dawson McKinney, and Eric McKinney, his great grandchildren; Zaiden, Briella, Braelyn, Brooklyn, Briar, Layla, and Laiken, and his sister; Vickie McKinney of Vandalia, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife; Brenda McKinney.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 26, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. at the Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, IL, officiated by Pastor Joe Lawson. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. also at the funeral home. A burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are left to the donor's choice.
