Mabelene Virden, age 88, formerly of Ramsey, Illinois, departed this life on Sunday, May 24, 2026, surrounded by family at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Mabelene was born 8 March, 1938, in Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois, the daughter of Hettie Rhoades (Blythe) and Alvia Rhoades. She later married Norman L. Virden on 4 September 1960 in Ramsey, Illinois. Norman passed on 4 July 2009. Mabelene was a member of the ladies Ben Hur Literary Club of Ramsey and loved animals, reading, and humor.

She is survived by: Sons – Bruce Virden, Saint Charles, Missouri and Brad & Kyoko Virden, O’Fallon, Illinois; Grandchildren – Lukas, Kelsy, Levi; Great Grandchildren – Kai and Raine; Nieces and Nephews and many others who loved Mabelene.

She was preceded in death by: Parents; Husband – Norman; and Brother – Norman Rhoades; Sister-in-law – Mary Ann Rhoades.

A visitation will be held prior to the service at the Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, IL from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, May 31, 2026. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, IL, officiated by Pastor Curtis Flake. Interment will follow the services at the Ramsey Cemetery, Ramsey, Illinois. Mabelene was a supporter of the Baptist Children's Home in Carmi, Illinois, and Gideons International.
