Lyle L. Ballance Sr., 89, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Vandalia, IL. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 03, 2014, with Masonic Rites at 10:45 AM, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Rev. Louis Frick, officiating. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery, Vernon, IL, with Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 03, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Memorials: First United Methodist Church. He was born April 24, 1925, in Vernon, IL, the son of Robert & Susan Irene (Oates) Ballance. Married Mary J. Lincicum November 14, 1948, in Bement, IL. She passed away July 29, 2010. He was a retired Fayette County Supervisor of Assessments and in early years engaged in farming; an Army World War II Veteran serving mostly in post war Japan and working in the motor pool and as a security policeman; member of First United Methodist Church; Temperance Lodge #16, A.F & A.M.; York Rite Bodies; Melrose Chapter 243 O.E.S.; Crawford-Hale Post #95 American Legion, all of Vandalia, IL. Lyle was a past member and master (1967) of Patoka Lodge #613. He received his 50 year membership award in 2013. He is survived by: Son - Lyle Leon Ballance, Jr. & Polly, Moreno Valley, CA; Daughter-in-law - Anita Ballance, Belton, TX; Brother - Ross Ballance, Vernon, IL; Grandchildren - Scott Ballance & Darra, Evans, GA & Mary Alice Ballance-Wiechman & Dan Husted, O'Fallon, IL; Step Grandchildren - Martin Knecht & Marla Quigley; Great Grandchildren - Dominique, Bacchus, Ethan & Alexander; Step Great Grandchildren- Zachary & Colton.
