Lucien S. "Gook" Jones 89 of Vandalia, IL., passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at home surrounded by his three daughters.
Graveside Services and interment with Military Rites by Crawford Hale Post #95, Vandalia, IL and the Brownstown VFW Post #9770will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday January 6, 2021 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, Illinois, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Family and Friends may gather at the Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. He was born September 5, 1931 in Vandalia, Illinois the son of Joseph J. & Maggie J. (Reed) Jones. Married Linda Lou Gelsinger in 1959.
Gook was a surveyor in Florida, an U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifelong member of both the VFW Post 3862 and The Vandalia American Legion Post 95; and was affiliated, with the Baptist Faith.
Lucien loved to play softball and was an outstanding pitcher for both the Farmers and Merchants Bank & Crane Packing teams of Vandalia, known for his signature pitch "the Chinese Curveball". He love to bowl, play pool, fish and mushroom hunt, but most of all spending time with his family,friends, speciallyhis three daughters, andalways considering Vandalia his home.
He is survived by: 3 Daughters – Tena Smith Edgewood, IL, Tracy Hendricks & Robert Shobonier, IL, Trena Jones Findlay, IL; 8 Grandchildren - Jonathan Jones & Julie, Michael Smith & Jacci, Robbie Hendricks, Melinda Hendricks & Alex Votrain, Cory Tripp, Lindsey Tripp, Heather Tripp and Brian Tripp Jr.; 11 Great Grandchildren - Faith, Ava, Jonathan Jr., Oakli, Blake, Zane, Lexi, Hailey, Madison, Gabriel and Emery.
Preceded in death by: 7Brothers – Raymond, Leo, Arnold "Pete", Orville "Boolee", Clifford "Kip", Leonard and Ezra Dean; and 1 Sister - Pauline Jones.
