Lawrence "Larry" R. Waddell, 98, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Unity Baptist Church, 6th. St. Facility, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Robert Weaver, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL, with Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the church with Masonic Rites at 9:30 AM. Memorials: Temperance Lodge #16 Vandalia, Shriners Hospitals For Children, or Unity Baptist Church.
He was born January 12, 1920, in Thebes, IL, the son of James Edward & Effie Gertrude (Jordan) Waddell. Married Kathleen Frances Reeter, October 29, 1939, St. Charles, MO, she passed away October 28, 2015. He was a retired Electrician Maintenance Foreman at the Vandalia Correctional Center, and World War II Navy Veteran. Also formerly employed at Waddell Electric, St. Elmo, IL; NY Central RR, East St. Louis and Mt. Carmel, IL; and Milwaukee RR, Milwaukee, WI.
Larry was a member of First Baptist Church, Vandalia, IL, St. Elmo Masonic Lodge #769 and Temperance Lodge # 16, A.F.A.M. Vandalia for over 74 years; Scottish Rite Bodies and Ainad Temple Shrine, E. St. Louis, IL, for over 50 years; VFW Post 3862, Vandalia, IL, American Legion Post #95. He was a 50+ year member of Local 702, West Frankfort, IL; former AFSCME member.
He is survived by: Son - Michael Waddell & Jane, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Sandra Grobengieser and Rosalie Bone & Bob, all of Vandalia, IL and Vicki Frankum & Rod, Galveston, TX; 13 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; 3+1 on the way Great Great Grandchildren; and 1 Sister - Effie Pforr & Raymond, Mattoon, IL.
Preceded in death by: Parents; Wife; 4 - Brothers; and 3 - Sisters; Son-in-law, Gordon Grobengieser.
