Obituary

Lavon Lucille Myers, 93, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Vandalia, IL area, was peacefully taken home to be with her Lord on Friday, the 27th of September, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00, Friday, October 4th with funeral service at 10:30 on Saturday, October 5, both at Miller's Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Memorials may be made to Calvary Southern Baptist Church, 1833 S. Country Club Road, Decatur, Illinois. She was born January 31, 1920, the daughter of Lawrence and Ina (Blankenship) Reising. She graduated from Centralia Business College and worked at Webster's Heating, Plumbing, and Electric Co. She married Cecil J. Myers February 23, 1940 and they lived most of their 66 years together in the Pana and Decatur, Illinois area. She was a homemaker and a partner with her husband in farming. She also worked in banking for twenty years. She loved having people over for Sunday dinner and entertaining friends. She had a natural green thumb when it came to flower beds and gardening. Lavon was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Decatur and attended Rankin Baptist Church while living in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is survived by her children: Connie Newby & husband Loy, Greensboro, North Carolina; Brenda Shippy & husband Rolland, Canyon, Texas; and Jim Myers & wife Connie, Fuquay, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren: Dann Newfont & wife Kathy, Barnardsville, North Carolina; Darek Newby & wife Patty, Arlington, Virginia; Christie Shippy, Canyon, Texas; Leslie Schroder & husband Chad, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Alicia Bradley & husband Mat, Canyon, Texas; Stacy Robinson & husband Jamie, Apex, North Carolina; Jason Myers & wife Crystal, St. Louis Missouri; 18 great grandkids: Sam & Ben Newby, Destin & Mariah Newfont, Anthony and Ashley Ramos, Aaron, Seth & Audrey Hughes, Kagan & Kash Bradley, AJ & Matthew Robinson, Elijah, Emily, & Lela Myers, Cade & Abby Schroeder: one sister Bettye Kelley and many nieces and nephews. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Beulah Grigg.
