Kenneth Steven "Steve" Lay, age 77, of Ramsey, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on October 7, 1948, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Kenneth and Shirley (Marsh) Lay.
Steve married Jennifer (Frailey) Lay on October 6, 1996. His hobbies included golfing and duck hunting. Over the years he taught science and coached basketball at Ramsey, owned and operated Lay’s Hardware in Ramsey, and then retired from the banking industry after many dedicated years of service. Steve was a member of the Ramsey Lions Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ramsey.
He is survived by his mother; Shirley Lay of Ramsey, IL, wife; Jennifer Lay of Ramsey, IL, children; Andy Lay, Tim (Angi) Lay, Jill (Lowell) Kircher, Michael (Maggie) Lay, Matthew Lay, seven grandchildren; siblings; Jim (Debbie) Lay, Vickie (Jim) Anderson, Brad (Julie) Lay, Brian (Michele) Lay.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:30 A.M., at the First Baptist Church, in Ramsey, Illinois with Pastor Terry Sapp officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Herrick, IL officiated by Father Seth Brown. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 4:30PM to 7:00PM at the First Baptist Church in Ramsey. Memorials may be made out to the American Cancer Society. Miller Funeral Home, Ramsey, IL is in charge of arrangements.
