Joyce E. Pennington, 65, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017, in Effingham, IL.

Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2017, at First United Methodist Church Chapel, Vandalia, with Dr. Joe Scheets, officiating. Private Burial will be held at a later date at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL. Memorials: Sids Foundation and/or Fayette Co. Cancer Fund.

She was born November 3, 1951, in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Russell Ernest & Juanita Vivian (McLemore) Hewitt. She was a former Executive Secretary for World Color Press, Effingham/Salem, IL. Joyce was a Member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham, IL, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School; also a member of Salem Elks Club. Joyce suffered from many health issues over the years but never lost her positive attitude and inspiring personality.

She is survived by: Son - Jarad Pennington, Effingham, IL; Sister - Janet Smith, Vandalia, IL; Several Nephews & Nieces; Several Great Nephews & Nieces.

Preceded in death by: Parents; Brother - William "Bill" Hewitt; Sisters - Dr. Becky Hewitt and Barbara Behrends; 1 Son - Sean Pennington.
