Joyce LaDon (Root) Flowers, 90, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Vandalia, IL and Fillmore, IL, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, surrounded by family at Hillsboro Health Assisted Living in Hillsboro, IL.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church, Vandalia, IL with Rev. Joe Lawson and Rev. Ben Foxworth officiating. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, 2 hours prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church and/or Glendale Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. She was born February 27, 1933, in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of the late Owen Root & Lucille (Behen) Donaldson. She married Ernest Edward Flowers on January 27, 1952, in Fillmore, IL. They were married for over 68 blessed years.

She moved with her family to Bingham where she attended grade school and moved to Fillmore where she graduated high school in 1950.

Joyce worked at her mom's restaurant. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for others and loved gardening. Her spiritual gift was serving others and she served faithfully alongside Ernest for many years.

She enjoyed having family around and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by: Sons - Mike Flowers & Marcia, Celeste, TX, Rick Flowers & Debbie, Mayfield, KY, John Flowers & LuAnn, Bartlett, TN, and Bruce Flowers, Emory, TX; Daughter - Tina Hagemeier & Curt, Morrisonville, IL; 11 Grandchildren; 35 Great Grandchildren; Sisters - Norma Rickman, Fillmore, IL and Nancy Savage, Edwardsville, IL.
