Gary A. Swofford, 84, of Brownstown, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at SBL Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Griffith Cemetery, Rural Brownstown, IL. Burial will immediately follow. Friends and family may begin to gather at the cemetery at 2:30 pm. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. He was born November 22, 1939, in Pittsburg, IL, the son of Raymond & Daisy (Meyer) Swofford. He married Pattie Ann Brown on November 18, 1966, in Ramsey, IL. She passed away on April 18, 2022. He was retired from the Vandalia Correctional Center, and he served his country as a military policeman for the United States Army.

He is survived by: Son - Bart Swofford, Brownstown, IL; Granddaughter - Cheyanne Mazander, Herrick, IL; Great Grandchildren - Hadrian Cox, Jensen Mazander, and Katyrina Mazander; Brothers - Terry, Monty, and Tim Swofford; Sisters - Linda Martin, Kay Seaton, Debbie Brewer, Theresa Durbin, and Hazel Vohlken.

Preceded in death by: Parents; Wife; and Sister - Vicki Bast.
