Eugene "Gene" R. Thompson, 74, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home, in Vandalia, IL.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Robert Thompson, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL, with Military Rites by Crawford Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia and Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 24, 2019, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL with Masonic Rites at 6:00 PM. Memorials: Warrior Nation Cancer Foundation. He was born July 17, 1944, in Vandalia, IL, the son of John .F & Geneva (Cripe) Thompson. Married Moyna Marie Miller, March 7, 1981, Vandalia, IL. He was a Retired Meat Cutter and member of Local 1546 United Food and Commercial Workers International Union; US Navy Vietnam Veteran; Member of Temperance Lodge # 16, A.F.A.M. Vandalia; Ainad Temple Shrine, E. St. Louis, IL; VFW Post 3862, Vandalia, IL; Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447; and Keyesport American Legion.

Gene was a car buff and enjoyed the 50's and muscle cars of the 60's. He restored a beautiful 1956 Ford Crown Victoria 2-door hard top in memory of his late brother, Bob. He was a great story teller and always had one to share. Most were true, but some were not.

He is survived by: Wife - Moyna Thompson, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Kelly Hogan & Jeff, Queen Creek, AZ, Jennifer Bolyard & Chris, and Brittnee Thompson, all of Vandalia, IL; 5 Grandchildren; Several Nephews & Nieces.

Preceded in death by: Parents; Brothers - Bob and Tom Thompson; and 1 Grand Child - Brianna Rogers.
