Eleanor L. Mattes, 88, of Vandalia, IL, formerly of Peoria, IL died on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Fayette Co. Hospital, LTC in Vandalia, IL. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery, in Rural Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until service on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Miller Funeral Homes, Vandalia, IL. She was born November 4, 1923, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Charles William and Nellie Faye (Croy) Scoles. She married Paschal "Berle" Mattes August 17, 1944 in Decatur, IL. Berle passed away July 5, 2009. Eleanor was a homemaker. She is survived by sons: Bill Mattes & Sally, Fond du Lac, WI and Rick Mattes, Laguna Beach, CA; daughter: Linda Reents & Gary, Peoria, IL; 9 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren, brothers: Don Scoles, Peoria, IL; Dan Scoles, Brandon, MS and Paul Scoles, Hanna City, IL; sisters: Phyllis Kaufman, Mt. Vernon, IL and Sharon Thompson, Peoria, IL. Preceded in death by parents, husband, brother: Chuck Scoles; sisters: Gwen Covington, Doris Rambo, Marlene Swearingian and Lois Stockwell.
