Donald Wayne Carpenter, 87, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, in SBL Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 18, at Christ Tabernacle Church in Herrick, IL, with Bishop Thomas and PastorJereme Suey officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL, with military rites by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL and Brownstown VFW Post #9770, Brownstown, IL. Visitations will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 17 at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, and from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 18, at Christ Tabernacle Church, Herrick, IL, 1hr. prior to the service at the church. Memorials: MAPS (Mid-America Preparatory School), Herrick, IL. Don was born, February 29, 1936, in Vandalia, IL, the son of George R. & Silva (Hicks) Carpenter. He married Rochelle "Rocky" Kay Harvey on August 7, 1955 in Decatur, IL. Don was a Barber for 18 years. He then purchased Old Capitol Monument Works Inc. and Shrine Memorial Mausoleum and Vault Company of Vandalia, IL which he operated for many years. Don was also a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Christ Tabernacle Church of Herrick IL, and former Vandalia Rotarian.
He is survived by: Wife - Rochelle "Rocky" Carpenter, Vandalia, IL;Daughter - LaVonda Nichols & Roy, Vandalia, IL,Son - Dr. Douglas Carpenter & Mary, Auburn Hills, MI: 7 Grandchildren - Ryan & Michalea Nichols, Blake, Dalton, Ashtyn, Kristyn Nichols and Dawson & Victoria Carpenter and Morgan Carpenter; 2 Great-Grandchildren - Lydia and Adeline Nichols.
Preceded in death by: Infant Granddaughter Klarrisa Kay; Brother - Ronald.
