Dennis L. Whitten, 68, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away January 20, 2015, at St. Louis, MO. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church, Rural Vandalia, with Dr. Ben Foxworth, Rev. Joe Lawson & Rev. Ernest Flowers, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 23, 2015 & 1 hr. prior to the service on Saturday, at the church. Memorials: Bethel Baptist Church, Rural Vandalia, IL. He was born September 23, 1946, in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Alvin Paul & Bonnetta Evelyn (Roe) Whitten. Married Mary Lou Elam on August 27, 1966, Vandalia, IL, she passed away March 6, 2011. He was a farmer, truck driver and Shafter Twp. Supervisor. Dennis was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a Life member of Fillmore Masonic Lodge; 2 time VCHS Hall of Fame & long time School Board Member. He is survived by: Sons - Michael Whitten, Chris Whitten & Carrie, of Vandalia, IL; Andy Whitten & Kiley, Flora, IL; Brother - Clayton Whitten & Bonnie Jean, Vandalia, IL; Sister - Eileen Pearson, Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren - Drake, Sophie, Ellie, Logan, Lauren, Mallory, Katie & Lucy & Great Grandchildren - Rylan & Landry. Preceded in death by: Parents; & Wife - Mary Lou Whitten.
