David L. Chapman, 78, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday March 8, 2021 at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Brian Lange and Jerry McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Rural Vandalia, IL with Military Rites by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL and Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, March 8, 2021, 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials: American Legion Post #95 and/or Union Cemetery. He was born November 13, 1942 in Mt. Erie , IL, the son of Fred Hayward & Eva Margaret (Allison) Chapman. David married Connie June McDowell on June 8, 1969 in Vandalia, IL. He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1994 after 28 years of service. After his retirement, he worked at Vandalia Rural King. David was a U.S. Army Veteran and member of American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL. He was avid St Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed picking blackberries and hickory nuts, listening to Bluegrass music and spending time with his family. His grandchildren gave him so much joy and he cherished the time he spent with them.
He is survived by: Wife - Connie Chapman, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Michelle Schaal & Luke, Vandalia, IL and Julie Lange & Brian, Mattoon, IL; Son - Tim Chapman, Vandalia, IL; Sister - Avalea Wissel, Albion, IL; and Grandchildren - Zach, Jacob, Gage and Aiden.
Preceded in death by: His Parents; 2 Brothers; and 3 Sisters.
