Big John Winkelman, 62, of Mt. Olive, formerly of Fillmore, IL, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, at Bethel Baptist Church, rural Vandalia, IL, with the Rev. Dan Rush, officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. before the service on Friday, at the church. Memorials may be made to the Liver Foundation. He was born on April 15, 1951, in Effingham, IL, the son of Norma Jean Anderson. He was a retired Supervisor for the Illinois Department of Corrections, Hillsboro, IL, and an Army Veteran. He loved to fish and be with his grandson, Alec. He is survived by: wife, Kim Winkelman, Fillmore, IL; a daughter, Sonni Koehler and Jim of Highland, IL; 2 sisters, Diane Cunningham and Debbie Long; and one grandson, Alec Rebbe.
