Barbara Hewitt Behrends, 67, of Brownstown, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, in Vandalia, IL. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 29, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, with Pastor Terry Westerfield & Rev. Joe Lawson, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 29, 2015, prior to the service at the church. Memorials: Fayette County Hospice and/or Shriners Hospitals For Children. She was born March 31, 1947, in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Russell E.& Juanita V. (McLemore) Hewitt. Married Jim Behrends on February 07, 1998, Vandalia, IL. Barb was a Registered Nurse at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia, IL on the 3rd floor Med-Surgical Unit & LTC; Member of First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL; former employee at First National Bank, Farmers & Merchants Bank and First Bank, all of Vandalia, IL; and was the former owner of Maries Restaurant, Vandalia, IL. She is survived by: Husband - Jim Behrends, Brownstown, IL; Daughter - Amy Houston & Bill, Vandalia, IL; Son - Mark Helm, Saint Elmo, IL; Step-Daughters - Natalie Gardener, Nashville, TN & Stephanie Madix, Bloomington, IL; Sisters - Janet Smith & Joyce Pennington, both of Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren - Cameron, Jake, Vanessa, Destiny, Hannah, Riley & Mackie; and Several Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by: Parents; Brother - Bill Hewitt; Sister - Dr. Becky Hewitt; & 1 Grand Child - Kayla Houston.
