Elizabeth A. Blythe, 81, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019, at her home in Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 15, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia, with Pastor Kurt Simon officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery Vandalia, IL, Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, November 15, 2019, before the service at the Church. She was born August 18, 1938, in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of William Floyd & Ardis (Meador) Sonnemann. Married Dr. James Granville Blythe on June 21, 1959 in Vandalia, IL. James and Elizabeth met in Kindergarten and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. Elizabeth was the Valedictorian at the Vandalia Community High School, a University of Illinois Graduate and received her Master’s Degree from St. Louis University in Education. She was associated with the American College of Ob/Gyn (ACOG) and the Central Association of Ob/Gyn (CAOG). Working with these associations gave her the opportunity to provide care and travel extensively throughout Africa on and off for over 10 years. These travels allowed her to make many great friends throughout Africa and Mexico. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Women's Auxiliary both of Vandalia, IL. Elizabeth had a love for teaching chemistry, fishing, playing bridge, horticulture and traveling, but most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by all of those who knew her.
She is survived by: Husband - Dr. James G. Blythe, Vandalia, IL; Son - Bill Blythe & Wendy, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Holly Ann Minke & Dr. Thomas, Monticello, MN and Rev. Molly Jo Blythe-Teichert & Paul, Chevy Chase, MD; 6 Grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Jacki, Hannah, Emma and Caroline, and 3 Great Grandchildren, Cyrus, Harper and Avery.
