Albert "Al" E. Schumacher, 81 of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Heritage Health in Springfield, IL.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Terry Westerfield, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL, with Military Rites by The Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95 and the Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post # 9770. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL, and 1 hr.. prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. He was born, October 12, 1937, in Springfield, IL, the son of Laroy & Margaret Clara (Boesdorfer) Schumacher. Married Kathleen Susann Dickey, June 8, 1985, Rochester, IL. He was the former Head of the Loan Dept. at National Bank of Hillsboro and Branch Manager of the Hillsboro Bank of Vandalia for 30 years; U.S. Marine Corps veteran; and member of First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL. Al was very active in church and community affairs: Vandalia Fire & Police Commissioners; District Deputy Director Lion's Club; Santa Claus 15+ years; and former president Hillsboro School Board.
He is survived by: Wife - Susann Schumacher, Vandalia, IL; Sons - Rod Schumacher & Brenda, Nashville, TN, and Curt Schumacher & Beth, Edwardsville, IL, their mother, Evelyn Schumacher, and Vic Devos, Auburn, IL; Daughter - Kelley Hopwood & Ron, Hillsboro, IL; Grandchildren - Sarah, Justin, Makenzie, Chloe, Kylie, Brock, Dylan, Braden & Mason; Brother - Roger Schumacher, Springfield, IL; Sister - Arlene Lyons & Jake, Springfield, IL.
Preceded in death by: Parents; Son-Infant Timothy Brooks; Daughter-Infant Michelle Lynn; and 1 sister, Verna Cutler.
